Email Discussion Lists

The NN/LM SCR utilizes several email discussion lists to communicate with our Network members. These lists serve as a tool to distribute information as well as provide a forum for members to discuss topics of professional and regional interest.

Regional Email Discussion List

List name: nnlmscr

The nnlmscr list is an open, unmoderated email discussion list for NN/LM SCR Network members, and members of the South Central Chapter/Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA). It exists to:

  • Facilitate communication among libraries, hospitals, and organizations that provide health information to health professionals and the public within the South Central Region (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas)
  • Provide a forum for discussing practical, theoretical, and philosophical issues and for exchanging advice, information, ideas, and resources of interest to its intended audience
  • Serve as the discussion list for members of the SCC/MLA
Appropriate usage includes:
  • Publicizing regional and state meetings, classes, and other educational offerings
  • Making announcements of regional and state interest, including job postings
  • Sharing information and resources
  • Asking for advice from colleague

Inappropriate usage:

  • Advertisements by publishers, software producers, or other vendors
    • Discussions and questions about products and services initiated by list subscribers are appropriate
  • Reference questions or assistance with library research by non-librarians

State Email Discussion Lists

Each state has its own discussion list for Network members in that state. These are open, unmoderated discussion lists.

List names:

  • Arkansas list name: ar-scr
  • Louisiana list name: la-scr
  • New Mexico list name: nm-scr
  • Oklahoma list name: ok-scr
  • Texas list name: tx-scr

Appropriate usage includes:

  • Publicizing meetings, classes, and other educational offerings within each state
  • Making announcements of state interest, including job postings
  • Sharing information and resources
  • Asking for advice from colleagues

Inappropriate usage:

  • Reference questions or assistance with library research by non-librarians

Subscribe to a list

subscribe listname firstname lastname

  • For example, if Joe Smith wants to subscribe to the Arkansas state discussion list, he would type: subscribe ar-scr Joe Smith
  • Instructions for using the list will be mailed to you

Send a message to a list

  • Once you are subscribed, send mail to: listname@lib40.library.tmc.edu
  • Example: ar-scr@lib40.library.tmc.edu
  • Your message will be distributed to all the people subscribed to the list

Unsubscribe from a list

  • Send a message to: listserv@lib40.library.tmc.edu
  • Do not type anything in the subject line
  • In the body of the message, type the following: signoff listname
