Dr. Condon Named NIDA's Associate Director for Science
Policy
Dr. Timothy P. Condon has been appointed NIDA's associate director for science policy and director of the Institute's Office of Science Policy and Communications (OSPC), where he oversees and coordinates NIDA's strategic planning, policy development, and communications processes. As head of OSPC, Dr. Condon advises on national drug abuse policy issues, plans and evaluates NIDA's scientific research programs, and coordinates activities in such areas as research training, science education, research dissemination and application, and communications.
"Dr. Condon's strong neuroscience background and extensive senior-level administrative experience provide the ideal combination to advance NIDA's policy and programmatic initiatives that are expanding scientific knowledge about drug abuse," says NIDA Director Dr. Alan I. Leshner.
Dr. Condon has served NIDA since 1993 as acting deputy director of OSPC and chief of its Science Policy Branch. Before coming to NIDA, he held several senior science administration posts at the former Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration, where he coordinated science and other policy issues. Before that, he served as senior analyst and project director for the U.S. Congressional Office of Technology Assessment.
Dr. Condon received his Ph.D. in neuroscience from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He pursued postdoctoral research in neuroendocrinology and neuropharmacology at the University of California at Los Angeles' Brain Research Institute and at the Oregon Health Sciences University.
