The German laboratory BAM (Federal
Institute for Materials Research
and Testing) conducted a full-scale
test on a CASTOR spent nuclear
fuel rail cask. The cask was placed
next to a rail tank car filled
with propane. Fuel oil was then ignited
beneath the rail car. The CASTOR
cask survived the fire and explosion.
