ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES THREE NEW MEMBERS TO

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Attorney General Janet Reno has appointed three new United States Attorneys to serve on her Advisory Committee of United States Attorneys. The Committee, created in 1973, advises the Attorney General on law enforcement issues and gives the United States Attorneys a key voice in Department policy. Their terms become effective immediately and will expire December 31, 2001. They are:

• Donna A. Bucella, Middle District of Florida

• Richard H. Deane, Jr., Northern District of Georgia

• Jackie N. Williams, District of Kansas

"These new members will be bring a broad range of experience and expertise to the Committee," said Attorney General Janet Reno. "Each has already made outstanding contributions to the Department."

The new members currently serve on various subcommittees of the Attorney General's Advisory Committee. With today's announcement, each will become members of the full Committee.

Bucella, who served as Director (1997-1999) and Principal Deputy Director (1994-1997) of the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) before her appointment as United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida in 1999, was a key player in bringing to justice the perpetrators of the Oklahoma City Bombing. Before joining EOUSA, Bucella served as Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida (1987-1993), Director for the Office of Legal Education, EOUSA (1993-1994), and Interim United States Attorney, Middle District of Florida (1994). She is an active member of the Advisory Committee's Office, Management, and Budget Subcommittee, and the Investigation and Intelligence Subcommittee.

Deane has made major contributions as a member of the Advisory Committee's Health Care Fraud Subcommittee and the Controlled Substances/Drug Abuse Prevention and Education Subcommittee. Before being appointed United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia in 1998, Deane served as Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Georgia (1994-1998), and Chief of the General Crimes Section (1988-1991) and Criminal Chief (1991-1994) for the United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of Georgia.

Williams is a career federal prosecutor and an active member of the Advisory Committee's Subcommittees on Environmental Issues, Native American Issues and Asset Forfeiture. Before being appointed United States Attorney for the District of Kansas in 1996, Williams served in the United States Attorney's Office as First Assistant United States Attorney/Criminal Chief (1993-1996), Interim United States Attorney (1993), First Assistant United States Attorney (1989), and Assistant United States Attorney (1978-1988).
