ATTORNEY GENERAL RENO TO VISIT SIDNEY LANIER
MIDDLE SCHOOL IN FAIRFAX TO ANNOUNCE GRANTS FOR COPS IN SCHOOLS
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Attorney General Janet Reno will visit Sidney Lanier Middle School in Fairfax, Virginia, tomorrow to announce the latest round of COPS in Schools grants. The Attorney General, who will announce the awards at 11:00 a.m., will be joined by COPS Director Tom Frazier, Sidney Lanier Middle School Principal Audra Sydnor, and Acting Chief of Police Major Marc Lipp.
The COPS in Schools grant program (CIS) funds the hiring of community policing officers or school resource officers, to work with administrators, teachers, and students to reduce crime and violence in and around schools. The program is designed to provide an incentive for law enforcement agencies to build working relationships with schools and apply community policing strategies.
