Jordan Announces Grant for
Port Jefferson Community Fire Company

Washington, DC -- Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved a $62,083 operations and safety grant for the Port Jefferson Community Fire Company.

“This is outstanding news for Port Jefferson,” Jordan said.  “These funds will help the department’s first responders be better prepared to fight fires and save lives.”

The funding is made available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, through which DHS will award roughly $500 million to fire departments and other emergency responders across the nation this year.  More than 20,000 funding applications requesting a total of $3.1 billion were filed in the current grant round.

Since the program’s inception in 2001, nearly $9.8 million has been awarded to fire departments in Ohio’s Fourth Congressional District.  Port Jefferson received $225,000 in AFG Program funding in 2003.
