Jordan: Review Prescription Drug Coverage
During Medicare Part D Open Enrollment

Washington, DC -- Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) encourages local senior citizens to review their prescription drug needs during this open enrollment period for the Medicare prescription drug benefit program (Medicare Part D).

“Tens of thousands of Ohio’s senior citizens save money on prescriptions every month through Medicare Part D,” Jordan said.  “With an average monthly cost of $25, the program helps seniors and the disabled get the drugs they need at affordable prices.”

The open enrollment period, which runs through December 31, is an opportunity for senior citizens to enroll in the prescription drug program--and for those currently participating to change plans to best meet their needs.

“Health care is not one-size-fits-all,” Jordan said.  “The 58 Medicare drug plans available in Ohio give our seniors the opportunity to pick the one that’s right for them.”  Jordan noted that 34 of these plans have a $0 deductible, and two others have premiums under $20.

For help in choosing the best plan, seniors should contact the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (1-800-MEDICARE or online at www.medicare.gov) or the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (1-800-686-1578).  Low-income seniors should inquire about additional assistance through the Social Security Administration (1-800-772-1213).

“I encourage all seniors in our district to sit down with their families and review their drug needs to ensure they’re getting the best deal at the lowest cost,” Jordan said.
