Jordan Announces Grant for Buckland Volunteer Fire Department

Washington, DC -- Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security has approved a $46,589 grant for the Buckland Volunteer Fire Department.

“Competition for federal funding is always tough, and Buckland is a most deserving recipient,” Jordan said.  “This grant will help the region’s first responders be better prepared to fight fires and save lives.”

The funding is made available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, through which DHS will award roughly $500 million to fire departments and other emergency responders across the nation this year.

Jordan wrote to DHS in May in support of Buckland’s application.  The money will be put toward the purchase of turnout gear, a thermal imaging camera, and other equipment.

Since the program’s inception in 2001, nearly $10.3 million has been awarded to fire departments in Ohio’s Fourth Congressional District.  Buckland received $42,254 in AFG Program funding in 2004.
