Jordan Named to House Judiciary, Small Business Committees
Looks Forward to Working on Key Immigration, Economic Issues

Washington, DC -- Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has been selected by his Republican colleagues to sit on the powerful House Judiciary Committee and the House Small Business Committee.

"I'm honored by the show of confidence my colleagues have placed in me by tapping me to serve on these key House committees," Jordan said.  The committee assignments were ratified by the House Republican Conference this week.

The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over judicial, constitutional, law enforcement, bankruptcy, patent, copyright, and antitrust issues.  It also conducts oversight of the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security, and is responsible for all immigration legislation considered by the House.

"Immigration and border security policy remain critical issues for Congress and our nation," Jordan said.  "I look forward to playing a hands-on role in securing America's borders against those who would enter our country illegally."

The Judiciary Committee will be chaired by Michigan Democrat John Conyers, who is perhaps best known for introducing a measure calling for the impeachment of President Bush.

Jordan chaired the Ohio Senate's Judiciary Committee on Criminal Justice during his service in the Ohio General Assembly.

As a member of the Small Business Committee, which will be chaired by Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Jordan said he hopes to find opportunities to help ease the burden on the nation's 26 million small businesses, reducing and simplifying federal regulations that stifle economic growth.

"Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and are critical to the success of families and taxpayers in our district," Jordan said.  "Anything we can do to cut taxes and red tape and put more money into the hands of small business owners will improve the fortunes of communities throughout Ohio."

Jordan will be named to various subcommittees within the two committees as they organize later this month.
