Jordan Votes Against Democrat Tax Increase

Washington, DC -- Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) today voiced his opposition to a Democrat bill that would increase taxes by more than $225 million.

"Six weeks ago, I spoke on the House floor to warn my colleagues that the Democrats' 'pay-as-you-go' would be nothing more than 'tax-as-you-go,'"Jordan said.  "But even I didn't expect to see tax hikes this quickly."

The Joint Committee on Taxation and the National Taxpayers Union reported that H.R. 976, sponsored by Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-NY), will raise taxes on small businesses, families, and individuals by $225 million over the next six years.  Jordan voted against the bill on the House floor today.

Jordan noted that the Democrats called their bill the "Small Business Tax Relief Act" because it would enact a few temporary tax cuts paid for by permanent tax increases.

"The American people won't be fooled," Jordan said.  "They know that small businesses are the engine of our economy."

Jordan said the tax hike bill is a sign of the economic policies Americans should continue to expect from the Democrat-controlled Congress.
