Resource libraries (RLs) are essential to the network structure and functioning in the Southeastern/Atlantic (SE/A) region. These large, academic medical center libraries share their time, collections and expertise with other medical libraries and unaffiliated health professionals. In the SE/A region, resource libraries are dispersed geographically throughout the 422,069 square mile area. There is at least one, and as many as four, RLs in each state and one in Puerto Rico.

Document delivery, through Loansome Doc and DOCLINE, is one key service they provide. This service ensures timely delivery of medical information to users of biomedical resources to support patient care, research and education.
Outreach to the underserved and unaffiliated health professionals is another important initiative with which the Libraries are involved. The many and various projects include: PubMed training, network development, exhibiting, AIDS database training, computer literacy, and technology awareness. Through subcontracts with the SE/A office, resource libraries have been involved in over 40 outreach projects in the Region since 1991.
Additionally, the library directors assist in planning and evaluation of NN/LM regional programs through participation on the Regional Advisory Council. The Regional Advisory Council reports on regional needs, provides direction, and offers perspective to the SE/A program.
