More than 625,000 people reside in the 4th Congressional District, which is located in North Central and West Central Ohio. It extends from the city of Mansfield in the east, to Lima in the west, Findlay in the north and Urbana in the south. The district is comprised of Allen, Auglaize, Champaign, Hancock, Hardin, Logan, Marion, Morrow, Richland and Shelby counties, as well as the western half of Wyandot County.
Major industries of the 4th District include agriculture, manufacturing, energy, defense and healthcare. Of all congressional districts in Ohio, the 4th ranks second in agriculture. In manufacturing, the district also ranks second, as well as 12th in the nation. The area is home to many national and international companies, including BP Chemicals, Ford Motor Company, Proctor and Gamble, Honeywell, Emerson Climate Technologies, Honda Motor Company, International Paper, Whirlpool, Consolidated Biscuit, Cooper Tire and Rubber, Nucor Steel, Berkshire Hathaway, Yutaka Giken and General Motors. Major energy companies located in the area, which is a significant center for ethanol production and oil refining, include Husky Energy and Marathon Petroleum. In defense, the 4th district is home to the 179th Air National Guard Base in Mansfield and the Lima Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, where General Dynamics Corporation crafts major components for tanks and chemical warfare vehicles. Area healthcare centers include Lima Memorial Health System, Hardin Memorial Hospital, Blanchard Valley Regional Health, Marion General Hospital and MedCentral Health System.
