Notable Quotable

“I intend Millennium Challenge to become the foreign aid program with clear, measurable objectives on the front end and an exit strategy at the back end. We will know that MCC has been successful in a partner country when we are no longer necessary.”

April Expert: Rodney Bent – Deputy CEO

In April, MCC CEO John Danilovich announced the new position of Deputy CEO and asked Rodney Bent to fill the position. As Deputy CEO, Mr. Bent is an officer of the Corporation and will manage the day-to-day operations of MCC. Mr. Bent, who has served as MCC's Vice President for Policy and International Relations since joining the Corporation in November 2005, is continuing to fulfill these duties.

Prior to joining MCC in November 2005, Mr. Bent was a professional staff member of the House Appropriations Committee, where he recommended appropriation levels and policies for U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) programs, the U.S. Export-Import Bank, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). Term of the Month: Suspension or Termination of Assistance

MCC partner countries must adopt and adhere to policies that promote growth, reduce poverty and make assistance more effective. If they don't, we say “no.” If they stop, we say “no more.”

Suspension or termination of eligibility for assistance occurs when MCC determines that a country is no longer eligible for Millennium Challenge Act (MCA), 609(g) or Threshold assistance and that implementation, due diligence and/or negotiations with respect to such country should cease because one or more triggering actions or events has occurred.
