MCC and GE Enter Into an MOU to Promote Sustainable Economic Development
On April 2, MCC and the General Electric Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining a framework for future collaboration to help developing countries find long-term economic solutions to their most critical challenges.  The agreement was signed by MCC’s CEO Ambassador John Danilovich and GE Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer, Keith Sherin.

MCC Announces $3.25 Million Pre-Compact Development Grant Agreement with Namibia
On April 14, MCC announced a grant agreement with the Government of Namibia to provide up to $3.25 million to support Namibia’s development of a Millennium Challenge Compact. The funding will be used to support the MCA-Namibia team responsible for the finalization of the compact, while establishing an accountable entity that will implement the compact.  The funding will also support a strategic environmental assessment for all program components

MCC Releases 2007 Annual Report
On April 17, MCC released its 2007 Annual Report summarizing how MCC programs are changing the lives of the poor in partner countries.  The report chronicles MCC’s achievements, specifically developments during fiscal year 2007, to reduce poverty through economic growth and, as a result, positively impact some of the world’s poorest people in 40 countries worldwide.

Features:
Millennium Challenge Corporation country partners in Central America have issued an innovative regional MCC news bulletin that covers issues faced by all three countries – El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua.  Read one of the first issues, with up-to-date info, available in Spanish.

MCC is making available its Economic Rate of Return data via interactive, downloadable Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Each spreadsheet includes:

  • A description of the project, including its economic rationale;
  • The expected project impacts, including detailed cost and benefit estimates;
  • A tool allowing users to modify key assumptions and study the effects of those modifications on the project’s returns.
