WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman announced today that he authorized several buildings at Los Alamos National Laboratory to be collectively known as the “Pete V. Domenici National Security Science Complex.”  The honor acknowledges Senator Domenici’s long and distinguished career as a U.S. Senator from New Mexico and is a testament to the vision and leadership of a great public servant.

“Senator Domenici has been a strong advocate for the important work done across the DOE complex and particularly at Los Alamos National Laboratory,” said Secretary Bodman.  “He realized that it was the people at the lab, selflessly serving our country, who made the lab what it is today.  I appreciate the support he gave to them, to me, and to the Nation.”

As Chairman, and then Ranking Member, of the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Domenici oversaw funding for many projects at the Energy Department.  His unique perspective on the talent and expertise resident throughout the Department's laboratory complex, coupled with his deep knowledge of energy and national security policy made him an important leader on issues related to the DOE mission.

The three buildings encompassing the Pete V. Domenici National Security Science Complex include the National Security Sciences Building, the Nicholas C. Metropolis Building for Modeling and Simulation, and the Nonproliferation and International Security Building.
