Washington, DC - Yesterday, HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced the emergency awarding of $10 million to 33 New York City and northern New Jersey health centers to support services provided in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Secretary Thompson also named Donald A. Henderson, M.D., to serve as director of a newly created Office of Public Health Preparedness, which will coordinate national response to public health emergencies.
