Agriculture Grants in Honduras
Evaluation Description
The Farmer Training and Development Activity is part of MCC’s five-year compact with Honduras that was signed in 2005. The activity is designed to increase the productivity and business skills of farmers who operate small and medium-size farms. The impact assessment of this activity will estimate the effect of business skills training and agricultural technical assistance on beneficiary household income and other measures of beneficiary well-being. The evaluation methodology relies on the randomized sequencing of geographic regions. In other words, some regions were selected randomly to receive training and technical assistance early, while some regions were selected randomly to receive these services later. To estimate impact, the average income of those receiving services early will be compared to the average income of those about to receive the same services (i.e. receiving training and technical assistance later). Data Collection
The evaluation will use household surveys and community profiles. The household surveys will include approximately 5,550 households. Each household will be surveyed two times:
- baseline (before benefiting from the activity) and
- follow up (after first round of implementation, i.e. the early group will have benefited from Farmer Training and Development Activity).
Household surveys will be complemented by community profiles conducted in the different geographic areas in which there is a concentration of beneficiaries.
