Welcome to the Marine Mammal Commission

The Commission was created under Title II of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, which took effect on 21 December of that year. The Commission's primary focus and duties are the protection and conservation of marine mammals.

This site provides a single point of information on the activities, programs, and publications of the Marine Mammal Commission and its Committee of Scientific Advisors on Marine Mammals, and conveys other relevant information on the conservation and protection of marine mammals and their ecosystems.

Now Available

The Marine Mammal Commission's Annual Report to Congress for 2007 is now available for download. For a printed copy of the report, please contact Melissa Herman.

"Review of Co-management Efforts in Alaska," a report resulting from the Commission’s 6–8 February 2008 workshop in Anchorage, AK, is now available for download (pdf, 645kb).  For a printed copy, please contact Melissa Herman.  Also available for download (pdf, 237kb) is the final report of the Large Whale Tagging Workshop, held 10 December 2005 in San Diego, CA.
