Mission | Bills ~ 110th Congress | Other Items of Interest | Archived Legislative Information Note: Prior to the establishment of the CIGIE, this committee operated under
the auspices of the "PCIE" (President's Council on Integrity & Efficiency) and the "ECIE" (Executive Council on Integrity & Efficiency).
Reports completed prior to the CIGIE use the PCIE & ECIE acronyms in their titles.
Mission Statement ~ February 2007
The PCIE and ECIE adopted A Strategic Framework 2005-2010, which designates the
Legislation Committee "as a centralized point-of-contact and liaison for the PCIE
and ECIE to ensure regular and ongoing communication with congressional committees,
committee staff, other congressional contacts, and GAO regarding issues of common
interest . . . ." The Legislation Committee is responsible for providing input
to and receiving feedback from Congress on legislation affecting the IG community as a whole. The Legislation Committee seeks to fulfill these responsibilities in a professional,
proactive, and efficient manner. The Committee is dedicated to providing helpful
and timely information about congressional initiatives to the IG community;
soliciting the views and concerns of the community in response to congressional
initiatives and requests; and presenting views and recommendations to congressional
entities and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on issues and initiatives
of interest. The predominant objectives of the Legislation Committee are to (1) foster a productive
and enduring relationship with Members of Congress and the committees that are directly
relevant to the IG community, (2) present sound counsel to Congress, OMB, and our fellow
IGs about proposals to make the Government work more efficiently, and (3) promote legislative
initiatives that further the IG mission to detect and deter governmental waste, fraud,
and abuse.
