EHP International Program

Global Access to EHP

EHP was established to provide a forum for the discussion and presentation of environmental health issues at the local, national, and international levels. Today EHP publishes much of the most important information coming out of environmental health research. With our success comes the responsibility to share this critical information with the global community.

Complimentary Print Subscriptions to Developing Nations
One of EHP's first forays into international dissemination was the provision of complimentary print subscriptions to institutions in developing countries. EHP currently provides complimentary print copies of the journal to institutions in developing countries that submit a written request. For more information, see our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page.

Digital Archives
The Internet affords the global community a unique opportunity to enhance scientific discourse. In 2004 we were invited to participate in the eGranary Digital Library and JSTOR.

e granary logo eGranary Digital Library is one component of the WiderNet Project, a capacity-building initiative of the University of Iowa. The aim of eGranary is to improve digital communication and access to information for students and scholars in developing countries. Because many institutions in developing countries cannot afford or access reliable Internet connections, eGranary delivers digital information to web servers inside the institution, where it can be accessed quickly over local area networks at no cost. Currently, eGranary delivers information by installing hard drives on participating institutions' servers.

jstor logo JSTOR is a nonprofit organization that provides an online system for archiving academic journals. It was conceived as a solution to a problem faced by many libraries: the prohibitive cost of maintaining a comprehensive collection of journals. Through JSTOR, institutions can affordably access the full text of digitized back issues of more than 1,100 scholarly journals. The organization also offers further-reduced subscription rates for developing countries.

Open Access Policy
open access logo EHP's most comprehensive effort to disseminate information is our Open Access publishing model. As an integral feature of the model, all EHP content must be made available for free in a digital archive. For this purpose, EHP has chosen PubMed Central, a public digital library archive. Immediately upon print publication, EHP deposits full content into PubMed Central, where the material is permanently preserved and made available for free to any user for search and retrieval.

All research articles are accessible for free on our website immediately upon acceptance. All news and announcement content also is available for free online upon print publication. For more information on the Open Access initiative, visit the Open Society Institute.
