State Profile

New Jersey is located on the east coast of the United States, with its state capital located in Trenton. New Jersey has 21 counties and 566 municipalities spread over 7,504.8 square miles of land. Among the 50 states and District of Columbia, the state ranked as the 9th most populous. According to the 2000 Census, New Jersey has a population of 8,414,350 residents. New Jersey residents are predominantly white (72.6%), with a significant black population (13.6%) and Hispanic population (13.3%). Asians make up only 5.7% of the state's population.

New Jersey has 314 public libraries, 3 medical colleges and 1 dental school.

  • HealthyNJ - The Consumer Health Information Task Force, comprised of librarians from each of the four UMDNJ Campus Libraries, developed the content of the Web Site to meet the health care information needs of consumers, particularly the citizens of New Jersey.
