EPIDEMIOLOGY/ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

Brown University is in the midst of a major expansion of its Program in Public Health. The Program, located in the Warren Alpert Medical School, is currently searching to fill several epidemiology faculty positions, including an environmental epidemiologist with a research emphasis on the use of biomarkers in cancer, neurological, and/or reproductive diseases.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in epidemiology and/or environmental health, or equivalent, and evidence of an independent program of research. Classroom experience teaching epidemiology and/or environmental health at the graduate level is highly desirable.

The School of Public Health and Health Services at the George Washington University is seeking applicants for Professor and Chair of its Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. The School is a fully accredited school of public health with vigorous programs of undergraduate and graduate research and education in seven departments: Environmental and Occupational Health; Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Exercise Sciences; Global Health; Health Policy; Health Services Management and Leadership; and Prevention and Community Health. The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health is at the center of national and global conversations about using science to protect workers, the public, and the environment from toxic substances and dangerous conditions. Faculty and staff in the Department, in keeping with the School's location in Washington, D.C., have earned a national reputation as researchers and leaders in articulating how public health science is best used in regulatory decision-making.

The School seeks a tenured or tenure-eligible faculty member at the rank of full professor with demonstrated experience in a discipline related to environmental and occupational health. The individual who holds this position will, in close collaboration with other senior and junior faculty and researchers, lead the Department's educational program at the masters and doctoral levels. In addition, this individual will lead the Department's efforts in securing extramurally funded research as well as represent the Department in governance and service at the School, Medical Center, and University levels. The successful candidate will have documented leadership in research and education with an established record of funding support and scholarship.

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must hold an appropriate terminal degree and have led an accomplished career in a discipline related to environmental and occupational health. In addition, applicants should possess considerable skills in one or more of the following: toxicology, occupational medicine, epidemiology, exposure assessment, risk assessment, risk communication, industrial hygiene, climate change, environmental health policy, environmental genomics, or other relevant disciplines. An established record of funding support and scholarship is essential. Applicants must have communications, organizational, and management experience, and have implemented successful educational and research programs. Experience in teaching and mentorship is essential.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate the requisite areas of expertise as well as: (1) a demonstrated commitment to teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership; (2) a demonstrated capacity to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the School of Public Health and Health Services, the GW Medical Center and the University, and with governmental and non-governmental entities; and (3) a demonstrated capacity to secure extramural support for research in environmental and occupational health. Preference will be given to applicants who possess innovative skills that will enable GW to make strategic use of its unique location in Washington, DC.

UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA FAIRBANKS
Epidemiology Faculty Position
Center for Alaska Native Health Research
University of Alaska Fairbanks

The Center for Alaska Native Health Research (CANHR) within the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Associate or Assistant professor. We seek an energetic individual in the area of human health research who has strong methodological expertise and a commitment to the development of a defined area of research. We are open to applications from individuals working in an interdisciplinary field, such as epidemiology, with interests ranging from prevention science, risk assessment, health interventions, and behavioral medicine. The successful candidate is expected to develop an active, extramurally funded research program relevant to Alaska Native people as well as to fulfill teaching and service responsibilities. Required qualifications include having an earned PhD or a health professional degree (MD, DVM, DDS, or equivalent) with additional graduate training. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in conducting innovative research with an emphasis on health disparities and underserved populations. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and the ability to communicate effectively with community groups are essential. All applicants should have a demonstrable commitment to working with indigenous, minority and/or rural peoples and to the conduct of research within a community-based participatory research (CBPR) model. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and contribute to the rapidly growing biomedical Center for Alaska Native Health Research. Duties will also include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and supervision of students. Departmental affiliation will be appropriate to the candidate's discipline and determined after on-campus interviews. This is a 12-month academic appointment that is state funded on a nine-month basis with funding for the other three months derived from other sources.

This support is provided by its genetics, biostatistics, nutrition, culture and intervention cores. The center has established a visiting presidential scholar program that facilitates interactions and fosters collaborative opportunities with world renowned scientists who spend extended periods of time at the Center. Our excellent working relationship with Alaska Native health corporations and experience with community-based participatory research practices facilitates the development of new research opportunities in Alaska Native communities. Collaborations with existing faculty, whose work ranges from novel biomarker development to genetics research, are encouraged. UAF has both the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (http://www.arsc.edu/) and the Core Facility for Nucleic Acid Research (http://mercury.bio.uaf.edu/core/index.html) that are outstanding research support facilities.

Assistant Professor of Public Health
Full-time (9-month) Tenure Track Position

The University of Massachusetts Amherst, School of Public Health and Health Sciences (www.umass.edu/sphhs/), Department of Public Health is seeking applicants for 2 tenure track state funded positions in Environmental Health Sciences concentration (www.umass.edu/sphhs/ehs/index.html) at the Assistant Professor level.

Position: The successful applicants will join a growing graduate program and faculty in Environmental Health Sciences. Current areas of faculty research in the program include human exposure assessment and biomarkers, health effects of persistent organic pollutants, dose-response modeling, hormesis, assessment/remediation of chemical contamination in soils and sediments, and the health effects of bioaerosol exposures.

Principal responsibilities will include developing and teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses in environmental health sciences, advising graduate students enrolled in MS, MPH and PhD programs, University service, and scholarly research. Candidates will be expected to develop their own areas of research specialization to complement the existing program, obtain competitive research funding, and engage in collaborative research with faculty from the Department of Public Health, School of Public Health and Health Sciences, other departments on campus, the University's Medical School, and Baystate Medical Center.

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is located in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, which is home to five colleges (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and UMass Amherst) with easy access to several major metropolitan areas.

Qualifications: Successful candidates for this position must have a doctorate in environmental health sciences, public health or a related field, evidence of independent and collaborative research potential, demonstrated interest and ability in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and a record of peer reviewed publications commensurate with experience and rank. The successful candidate will complement existing expertise within the Environmental Health Sciences concentration. Although applicants with research interests in all areas of environmental health will be considered, candidates with expertise in the areas of computational biology, risk and exposure assessment modeling, and environmental fate and transport modeling are strongly encouraged to apply. Environmental and Occupational Health Scientist with
Interest in Knowledge Translation and Community Outreach

The College of Public Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) seeks qualified candidates for 2 tenure-leading faculty positions in the Department of Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health. Candidates may be of any faculty rank and include scientists and occupational health physicians. Research should emphasize research-to-practice and community outreach in various areas of environmental and occupational health. Applicants will be expected to teach graduate level courses; advise students at the Master's and Doctoral levels; lead and participate in scholarly activity; obtain external funding; provide service to the department, college, university, profession, and the metropolitan and rural communities. Collaborations are possible with faculty at UNMC, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Existing areas of strength include: health effects from environmental estrogen exposure, respiratory illness from organic dust exposure in agricultural environments, water quality, and musculoskeletal injuries as they relate to geriatrics and work in the meat packing industry, ergonomic and other occupational hazards, as well as epidemiology and biostatistics. The UNMC environment facilitates a growing research enterprise (growth in NIH funding even in years of level NIH budget). Basic requirements include a doctoral degree, productivity, and the ability to communicate effectively. Evidence of ability to secure extramural research funding is desirable. Individuals will be expected to play an important role in the existing Master's in Public Health in the College and in the Master's and Doctoral programs in the Department of Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health.

Developmental Neurobiology
Tenure-Track Investigator

The Laboratory of Neurobiology is recruiting a Tenure-Track Investigator to lead a high-quality independent research program on any fundamental aspect of developmental neurobiology with the potential for identifying and preventing the deleterious effects of environmental exposures on human cognitive development. Investigators in the NIEHS intramural program have no formal teaching duties and minimal administrative responsibilities and are funded internally without extramural grants. In exchange, they are expected to engage directly in the conduct of research with a small group of postdoctoral fellows and technicians and to collaborate with their colleagues to solve important scientific problems related to the Institute's mission. Excellent start-up funds, salary, and benefits package will be provided to the selected applicant, who will also have access to state-of-the-art research core facilities at the NIEHS. Applicants should have a Ph.D, M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree with at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in developmental neurobiology and a strong publication record. Applicants using fluorescence imaging and genetic model organisms are particularly encouraged to apply, but the emphasis will be on identifying an outstanding scientist with an innovative research program. Tenure-Track Developmental Biologist
Research Triangle Park, NC

A position is available for a Developmental Biologist to establish an independent basic research program and form a research group in the Laboratory of Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology, Division of Intramural Research. Applications are invited from scientists with demonstrated ability for creative and productive research in cellular and molecular mechanisms of mammalian development. Of particular interest are investigators using rodent models to study cell interactions, epigenetics or other basic biomedical problems relating to the impact of the environment on development. The successful candidate will interact with investigators studying diverse problems in reproductive biology, developmental toxicology, hormone mechanisms, signal transduction, cell cycle regulation, cell growth and differentiation, apoptosis, gene regulation, mutagenesis and DNA repair, and cancer biology.

Minimum qualifications are an M.D., Ph.D., D.V.M. or equivalent doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences, at least three years of postdoctoral experience, and publications in high quality journals.
