MCC 2008 Annual Report Details Role in the Fight Against Global Poverty

Washington, D.C. — The congressionally-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) today released its 2008 Annual Report summarizing progress of the five-year old agency and its innovative foreign assistance programs.

“MCC had a banner year and our Annual Report illustrates impressive results for some of the poorest people around the world,” said MCC CEO Ambassador John Danilovich. “The year ahead opens an exciting chapter for MCC as we continue to influence the debate about the way the U.S. delivers foreign assistance. Our approach of holding governments accountable for the assistance they receive helps countries pursue their development objectives and focus on reducing poverty through economic growth. I am confident that the new administration will find ways to build upon this foundation and help the MCC and our partner countries achieve lasting progress.”

The 2008 Annual Report provides an overview of MCC’s history and organizational structure, as well as the status of all current programs. The report also includes specific examples of how MCC’s compact and threshold programs are moving forward and focusing on the impacts for beneficiaries. The report offers examples from the field including: Armenia, Benin, Cape Verde, El Salvador, Georgia, Ghana, Honduras, Madagascar, Mali, and Vanuatu.
