Public Service Announcements

These public service announcements (PSAs) are one way of promoting understanding about the natural role of wildland fire. In many areas, wildland fires contribute to the health of the land, it recycles and rejuvenates vegetation.

People can learn how to adapt to fire prone landscapes and enhance their quality of life by preparing for all natural events. The announcements cover a range of subjects like fire managment, wildland urban interface, and safety and prevention.

All of these PSAs can be downloaded with no charge or royalties. They do not have any dated tag lines so they can be used for multiple years. The MP3 format is a higher quality which radio stations should be able to play. To listen to the real audio files your personal computer must be equipped with a media player.

The 2002 PSAs are available in Spanish and English for downloading in MP3 format for radio use and RealAudio® format for personal computer use. An accompanying text file in Adobe® PDF format is also available for each PSA in both English and Spanish.

The 2003 PSAs are available in English for downloading in MP3 format for radio use and RealAudio® format for personal computer use. An accompanying text file in Adobe® PDF format is also available for each PSA in both English and Spanish.

2003 Public Service Announcements

The 2003 radio public service announcements (PSAs) were funded by the Heinz Family Philanthropies, who partnered with wildland fire management agencies in the wake of recent record-breaking fire seasons. They were developed to share hot tips with communities about aspects of wildland fire education. Some of you may recognize the voice on the 2003 PSAs as none other than Rose Davis, Forest Service Public Affairs Specialist at the National Interagency Fire Center.

The twenty-seven PSAs are divided into four categories: Wildland Fire Management; Fire Ecology; Fire History; and Wildland Fire Safety and Prevention.

Please Note: a local Spanish-speaking expert should review the Spanish-language tips to reflect and convey the local dialect. The length of the Spanish-language PSAs may extend beyond 60 seconds and may need to be modified to meet local time frames.
