JONES VOTES AGAINST WITHDRAWAL DATE FOR U.S. TROOPS IN IRAQ

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a House vote yesterday evening, Third District Representatives Walter B. Jones (R-NC) voted against H.R. 2237, legislation to establish a date certain for withdrawing U.S. Armed Forces and defense contractors from Iraq. The bill failed by a vote of 171 to 255.

The bill would have required the Secretary of Defense to commence redeployment of U.S. troops and defense contractors from Iraq within 90 days of the bill’s enactment, to be completed within 180 days. H.R. 2237 also would have prohibited the use of funds to increase the number of members of U.S. Armed Forces serving in Iraq in excess of the number of members serving in Iraq as of January 1, 2007.
