JACKSONVILLE HIGH STUDENT RECEIVES CONGRESSIONAL ACADEMY NOMINATION

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC) announced his nomination of Jacksonville High School student Erik Erlandson to both the United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy. Erik is the son of Carl and Linda Erlandson of Jacksonville, North Carolina.

The U. S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy are two of five service academies established by the federal government for the purpose of training officers of the Armed Forces. Selection to academies can be extremely competitive as each academy pays for appointees’ tuition, fees and boarding and provides a monthly stipend.

Every applicant, except those to the Coast Guard Academy, must receive a congressional nomination and apply directly to the academy. Those receiving nominations and appointments to the U.S. service academies must exhibit strength in character, scholarship, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness, goals and motivation.
