Houston, TX -- Individuals living in the disaster area of Southeast Texas, who are unable to work because of the recent storms and flooding, may file claims for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA).

DUA benefits are for those who:

Claims must be made by calling the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Houston Unemployment Insurance Tele-Center at 713-982-7400 or the regional TWC Tele-Center network at 800-939-6631. Tele-center hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To receive Disaster Unemployment Services benefits, individuals must provide documentation of employment at the time of the disaster or verification of the weeks the applicant was scheduled to work. Applicants must also provide Social Security numbers and names and addresses of their last employer or prospective employer. The deadline to apply for DUA is July 16.

To be eligible for DUA benefits, applicants must live or work in the declared counties of Anderson, Angelina, Brazoria, Cherokee, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Hardin, Harris, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Trinity, Tyler and Walker counties.
