Service Academy Appointments:

Each year, Rep. Jones nominates outstanding high school students from the 3rd Congressional District of North Carolina for consideration for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York.

The selection process is very competitive and is based on scholastic and athletic records, involvement in community activities, and leadership potential. Applicants are reviewed by the 3rd Congressional District Academy Review Board.

Nominations are open to legal residents of the 3rd Congressional District who are at least 17 years of age and not yet 22 on July 1st of the year of admission. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens and unmarried, with no dependents.

Candidates must qualify medically and academically. Each academy will inform candidates of its requirements for the medical examination and physical aptitude tests. All candidates should request a pre-candidate questionnaire from the Academy or Academies of their choice. Academy admissions offices may eliminate from further consideration those candidates who do not meet minimum academic requirements.

To apply for a nomination, applicants must submit the following to my Greenville, NC, office on or before October 31st:

A) completed application form
B) a high school transcript through and including the student's junior year (must include class rank and grade point average)
C) a copy of SAT and/or ACT scores
D) three letters of recommendation
E) a recent photograph

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that all information is sent and postmarked no later than October 31st in order to assure that their application will be considered.
