FEMA's Toll-Free Registration Number Available for Flood Victims

Quincy, MA -- A toll-free registration number is now open for use by homeowners, renters, and business owners in Essex, Middlesex, and Norfolk counties who suffered damage and losses in the March flooding. President Bush designated those counties a major disaster area on April 10.
That registration number is 800-462-9029 or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the speech and hearing impaired. Both lines will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.
Louis H. Botta, who is coordinating activities for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), urges those affected by the flooding to pick up the phone and apply for assistance without delay. "That one call will open the door to a wide range of state, federal and other programs for those who qualify," he said.
"Notifying local emergency management officials or calling the American Red Cross does not register anyone for state and federal assistance," Stephen J. McGrail of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said. "The ONLY way to access FEMA/state assistance is via FEMA's toll-free telephone line."
