Quincy, MA -- Bay Staters who have already applied for disaster assistance and need additional information have a toll-free number to call for help.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Helpline number is 1-800-525-0321. The number for speech- and hearing impaired applicants is 1-800-462-7585.
"If you're among the thousands who already have registered for disaster assistance and have questions about your application or the process, call the Helpline," said Stephen J. Mc Grail, director of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and state coordinating officer.
"Helpline representatives can answer questions about your application, tell you what steps to take in the application process, and take new or updated information. If you move or change your phone number you must let us know," said Louis H. Botta, the FEMA official who is the federal coordinating officer for the disaster recovery.
Residents of Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk and Worcester counties who suffered damage or loss of property because of the March floods may be eligible for disaster assistance under a presidential disaster declaration.
For those who haven't applied, the first step is to call FEMA's toll-free registration number, 1-800-462-9029. (TTY: 1-800-462-7585).
Hours of operation for all numbers are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
