Tazewell, VA -- Federal and state officials have established a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at 607 Market Street, North Tazewell (site of the old Food Lion). The facility is handicapped accessible.

At the center, disaster recovery specialists will provide one-on-one assistance and answer any questions from county residents who have experienced damages and losses from the severe storms and flooding during July 8-10 that resulted in the President's July 12th disaster declaration.

The DRC opens at noon on Thursday, July 19. The DRC's hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon until 6 p.m., until further notice.

County residents who have already registered by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free application number, 1-800-462-9029, are not required to visit a DRC regarding their application. DRC specialists will provide information on disaster programs including: grants to pay for temporary housing needs, minimal home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Residents and business owners also may be eligible for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to help cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.

All homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained damages to their homes or personal property from the early July storms, are encouraged to call the FEMA toll-free registration number to register for assistance. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments who use special keyboard equipment (TTY) should call toll-free 1-800-462-7585. Registration specialists are available to take calls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.
