Field Testing Capabilities
The Hydraulic Investigations and Laboratory Services Group performs field work to evaluate the performance of hydraulic structures and equipment, and to collect hydraulic data in support of design activities and operational studies. We have specialized equipment and expertise for measuring a variety of hydraulic parameters, including:
- Discharge
- Flow velocity in 1, 2, or 3 dimensions, using ADV's and ADCP's (boat-mounted and fixed deployment)
- Pressure, (dynamic and steady-state)
- Stress and strain in mechanical components of hydraulic machinery
- Blast-induced stresses on hydraulic structures during construction activities
- Temperature and water quality parameters in reservoirs and rivers
- Air demand of hydraulic equipment
- Channel bathymetry
Example Applications
Vermeyen, Tracy B., 2002. Measuring Selective Withdrawal Characteristics using an Argonaut Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter in Folsom Lake, California.
