About Univision: Salud Es Vida ¡Entérate!
Since 2001, Univision, the leading Spanish-language media company in the United States, and the Kaiser Family Foundation have teamed up on  !Enterate…del VIH y SIDA! (Get the Facts…about HIV and AIDS!),a Peabody Award-winning public information partnership to provide targeted, culturally-relevant information about HIV/AIDS and related issues for Latinos in the U.S.

In 2002, the campaign became Univision’s primary pro-social effort, expanding in scope to include other public health issues.  The Foundation remains a lead partner. In 2008, Univision and the Kaiser Family Foundation launched Soy…(I am…)—a new campaign of !Enterate…del VIH y SIDA!featuring the stories of real people living with HIV and those who love them.

The Message

In 2008, the goal of the ¡Entérate! campaign is to create a more personal connection to HIV/AIDS in the Latino community, conveying the message that HIV affects people like me, or those I care about. Soy… encourages people to talk openly about HIV/AIDS and take action – be that getting tested, using protection or getting involved in the community.

The Need

Latinos have been disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, accounting for 19% of AIDS cases while comprising only 15% of the U.S. population.  Latinos are testing positive for HIV, being diagnosed with AIDS and dying from the disease at higher rates than Whites in the U.S.  As the largest and fastest growing ethnic minority group in the United States, addressing the impact of HIV/AIDS in the Latino community takes on increased importance in efforts to improve the nation’s health.
