The city center has been undergoing a revitalization for the past ten years, with new housing attracting the traditional urban base as well as empty-nesters. The overall population (Louisville-Jefferson County Metro) of about 700,000 is growing more diverse, with a recent influx in the last twenty years of Latinos, Asians, and eastern Europeans.
Louisville's largest industries reflect on its transportation tradition, among them UPS, Ford Motor Company, and General Electric. The Norton Healthcare and Jewish Hospital complexes also rank among Louisville's largest employers.
