Clyburn on Passage of Health Care Insurance for 11 Million Children

WASHINGTON, DC—House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement applauding the overwhelming passage of H.R. 2, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) Reauthorization bill. The legislation will provide health care coverage for 11 million children, preserving coverage for the 7 million children currently covered while extending coverage to 4 million children who are eligible, but not enrolled.

Clyburn today released the following statement in response to news that 524,000 jobs were lost in the month of December, increasing the jobless rate to 7.2 percent, the highest level in 16 years. In total, 2.6 million jobs were lost in 2008, the most since 1945.

111th Sworn In Today : Clyburn Delivers Reflection at Interfaith Prayer Service

WASHINGTON, DC—As part of the events surrounding the swearing-in of the 111th Congress, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn this morning delivered the reflection at the 111th Congress Bipartisan Interfaith Prayer Service at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church. Later this afternoon, Clyburn and the other members of the 111th Congress were sworn in on the floor of the House of Representatives. Clyburn was reelected House Majority Whip for the 111th Congress, the third-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives. This will be his second term as House Majority Whip.
