RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REPLENISHING EXPIRED POTASSIUM
IODIDE (KI) |
The Commission has approved Option 2 to replenish potassium iodide (KI) for those States
currently providing it for populations within the 10-mile emergency planning zones (EPZs) of
commercial nuclear power plants. The staff should make it clear that this replenishment is a
one-time action and will not be renewed in the future.
The staff should work with appropriate stakeholders and provide options by May 15, 2007 to the
Commission for future KI supply and replenishment within the 10-mile EPZs of commercial
nuclear power plants. Options should include direct funding by licensees.
