The Medicaid Buy-In

Section 201 of TWWIIA governs the provision of health care services to workers with disabilities by establishing a Medicaid state plan buy-in optional eligibility group. In addition, the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 originally provided an optional Medicaid eligibility group for working individuals with disabilities. As of September 1, 2008, 39 States currently have a Medicaid Buy-In Program.

This page provides access to information about those options, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) sponsored research, and information about the States with buy-ins.
