Taxes and Fiscal Responsibility
Over the past seven years, Americans have watched as bad spending decisions
made in Washington and economic ups and downs have erased a $127 billion
budget surplus with a mounting budget deficit. Today our national debt
is estimated to be over $8 trillion, with $1.3 trillion held by foreign
countries—this is simply unacceptable.
I believe that that our government must be responsible with your tax dollars.
In recent years, Congress has lost sight of this important responsibility,
shifting the financial burden of today’s spending decisions onto
the backs of our children and grandchildren. As your congressman, I will
work to restore fiscally responsible government and reduce deficit spending
by supporting common-sense, pay-as-you-go budget enforcement.
Furthermore, I believe fair tax policy is critical for maintaining a healthy
economy. I support responsible efforts to promote tax relief to help small
businesses and middle class families and keep our economy healthy. That
is why I voted for H.R. 976, The Small Business Tax Relief Act of 2007,
which provides assistance to local entrepreneurs and to family farmers
invest in the equipment and resources they need to remain competitive in
today’s global economy. As your congressman, I will continue to promote
responsible tax relief for those who need it.
For too long Congress has lost sight of its responsibility to be a good
steward of your tax dollars. Just like Hoosier families must make decisions
about what to buy and how to save, I believe our government needs to make
the same kind of disciplined decisions and live within its means. |
