PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE ESTABLISHED AT QUONSET POINT COMMAND CENTER
The National Transportation Safety Board has established a public affairs
office in the Quonset Point command center for the investigation of the
crash of EgyptAir Flight 990. The telephone number is 401-295-6500. News
media may continue to call the office at the command post in Newport, R.I.
Those numbers are 401-841-9654 /9666 /9593.
The NTSB also announces that various regulatory and law enforcement
agencies have established safety zones which restrict public access around
sites involved with the crash investigation. The safety zones are as follows:
- A moving 500-yard radius on the water around U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast
Guard vessels carrying wreckage through Narragansett Bay to the Davisville
Depot Pier.
- A 2,000-yard radius on the water around the Davisville Depot Pier while
Coast Guard and Navy vessels are offloading or preparing to offload wreckage.
- A 500-yard radius on the water around the Davisville Depot Pier when
no vessels are present.
- A 200-yard radius on land around the Davisville Depot Pier area.
- Airspace above the Davisville Depot Pier area is restricted to aircraft
within a 5-mile radius and 5,000 feet of altitude. This airspace restriction
also will apply in the vicinity of any memorial service for families of
crash victims.
- There is no parking on Davisville Road or Allen Harbor Road.
- No trespassing where posted.
- No breaching of fences.
- The crash site is a restricted area. Map coordinates for the crash
site are: 40 degrees/38.0 minutes North at 70 degrees/4.0 minutes West;
40 degrees/38.0 North at 69 degrees/25.0 minutes West; 40 degrees/8.0 minutes
North at 70 degrees/4.0 minutes West; and 40 degrees/8.0 minutes North/69
minutes/25.0 minutes West.
- Airspace above the crash site is restricted in a 30-mile radius and
15,000 feet.
