TSC Resources for Geotechnical Services
The TSC's Geotechnical Engineering Groups provide many types of geotechnical services for dams, canals, pipelines, foundations, cutoff walls, excavations, and other civil projects. These services include:
Embankment dam analysis and design | Response to dam emergencies and incidents
Geotechnical engineering analyses | Seepage/groundwater modeling
Development of detailed specifications and designs | Risk analysis facilitation
Settlement and bearing capacity analyses | Rock mechanics analysis and design
Dewatering designs | Development and evaluation of field exploration/monitoring programs
Foundation analysis | Evaluation of natural soil and rock slopes
Slope stability | Site characterization
Dam safety evaluation & modification | Seismic analysis and design |
The Seismotectonics and Geophysics Group (86-68321) conducts technical investigations for Reclamation facilities in the 17 western states and for other governmental clients. Services include investigations of earthquake hazards, quaternary morphology, and engineering geophysical studies.
The group directly operates two regional seismic networks in the western United States (SE Idaho/western Wyoming, and western Colorado), and maintains an extensive network of digital and analog strong-motion recorders.
The Geotechnical Computer and Technical Support Group (86-68361) provides technical and computer services and support to the geotechnical, geological, and geophysical groups within the Technical Service Center and to other groups throughout Reclamation. This group's highly trained and experienced technicians and scientists support a wide variety of Reclamation activities including:
Computer support services | Contouring, alignments, profiles, and cross sections
Computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) | Image processing
Engineering design and layout | Slope stability analysis
Two- and three-dimensional analyses for design representations | Global Positioning Systems (GPS) surveys and map creation |
