Q: Does the City have a general information phone number?

A: No, currently there is not a general information phone number.  For the list of city department phone numbers click here.


Q: How do I contact Mediacom?

Q: Where can I pay a parking ticket?

A: 320 E. McCarty St., Finance Department

Q: Where can I take/pick mulch and how much does it cost?
A. If you live within City limits you may take/pick up free mulch at: 2606 W. Edgewood. For other questions about mulch please call Community Development at (573) 634-6410.


Q. Where do I get a marriage license?
A. At the Cole County Courthouse Annex on High Street.


Q. Who do I call to get my road/parking lot snow-plowed?
A. Please contact the Street Department at (573) 634-6465.


Q. Do I need a fishing license to fish at Binder Lake or Hough Lake?
A. The Department of Conservation requires anyone over the age of 16 to have a fishing license, for more information please contact them at (573) 522-4115.


Q: What is my property zoned?
A: Unfortunately, we do not yet have our zoning maps on-line. You can find out the zoning of your property by calling the Planning Division at (573) 634-6410.


Q: Where can I find a copy of the City Zoning Code?
A: Click here for the Zoning Code. The Zoning Code can also be found on the City Code web page or can be picked up at City Hall for a $10.00 copying fee.


Q: Where are recycle locations? For more infomation...

A: Jefferson City has contracted with a recycler to pick up newspapers, magazines, and corrugated cardboard from five convenient locations within the City. Citizens may take these materials to any one of the five locations at anytime. These locations include:

  • McKay Park
  • Memorial Park
  • Fire Station #1, 621 W. High St.
  • Fire Station #2, 2400 E. McCarty St.
  • Fire Station #5, 1005 Fairgrounds

Q: Where can I drop off yard waste/compost? For more information...

A: Jefferson City has contracted with Frank Twehous Excavating Company to provide a location to drop off yard waste.  There is No Charge to City residents who haul their own waste.  Site location:

Q: What are the hours of operation for yard waste/compost drop off locations?

Q: How tall does grass have to be before it’s a violation?

A: Any noxious weed or other rank vegetation over twelve (12) inches in height qualifies as a violation.


Q: When is trash service for my part of town? For more information...

A: Trash collection is twice per week.  The container must be at the curb by 6 a.m.  No pick up is done on holidays.

  • East of Jefferson Street is Monday and Thursday. 
  • West of Jefferson Street is Tuesday and Friday.

A: (Old) City Cemetery is located at 1000 East McCarty Street, Woodland Cemetery is located at 1022 East McCarty Street, Longview Cemetery is located at 204 Scotts Station Road
