WASHINGTON, DC – January 29, 2008 – Fifth District Congresswoman Niki Tsongas released the following statement today regarding the passage of the bipartisan economic stimulus package.

"I was pleased to join with an overwhelming bipartisan majority of my colleagues to support the passage of an economic stimulus package which will provide timely, targeted, and temporary assistance for the working families who have been affected most by the struggling economy.  The stimulus provides tax rebates to 117 million families, including 35 million families who work but make too little to pay income taxes and 13 million senior citizens. In Massachusetts 2.6 million households will receive on average $885 in rebates.
