Food and Drug Administration 5600 Fishers Lane Rockville MD 20857-0001 Dear Dr Henney, Please let me take this opportunityto wish you every success in what I consider one of the most vital leadership roles in the country. We are living at the juncture of so many "breakthroughs" in technology, medicine and virtually every facet of modern life, I hardly know where to begin. You will have a chance to impact on many of the new lifestyle and production changes that lie ahead. Here and worldwide. I consider the present alarm in the area of antibiotic usage in humans and animals to be not only valid, but of primary concern to everyone likely to fall ill at some time. Namely, all of us! Ì think it's imperative the FDA quickly establish a system for collecting basic data on agricultural antibiotic use in the United States particularly. This data should reflect usage in both human and agricultural use, and cover the class, indication, dosage, and treatment period. If we fail to use the technologies available to us wisely, our grandchildren may pay the price. So I hope you'll take steps in this crucial area immediately. Wishing you every success in this, and your many other endeavors - abd hoping for a response in this important matter, very sincerely WILLIAM H. WHITE, 338 Okaloosa Road Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548
