From: Newt,Terri, or Sophi Goodwell [nts.goodwell@gte.net] Sent: Saturday, March 10, 2001 5:51 PM To: FDADockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: Docket #98P-0151/CP1 IN To whom this may concern, I've recently been made aware of Petition #98P-0151/CP1 IN, which I would like to urge you to grant. This would prohibit the slaughter of downed animals for consumption. Not only is this procedure dangerous for those consuming these sick and injured animals, but it would insure more humane treatment of those animals led to slaughter. I'm sure you are aware of the terrible conditions livestock on factory farms must endure, but treating downed cows in this same cruel way is beyond horrible. I think you would agree that this world we live in needs more compassion and kindness. Why not begin here by humanely treating these poor sick creatures. The only real repercussions of passing this petition is to alleviate some bit of the suffering and encourage more kindness toward animals. These are good things. Thank you for listening and considering my opinion. Sincerely, Terri Goodwell
