Veterans

Congressman Tierney is committed to upholding the government’s obligations to our nation’s veterans. Veterans have a special place in our society because of their service to our country. Our government, in return, has an obligation to provide those individuals with the help that they may need, particularly as they grow older.

In 2007, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) spending bill, which, quite simply, provided the largest single increase in the 77-year history of the VA. For the first time, the budget specified for VA medical care exceeded the budget put forward by the veterans' service organizations. This level of commitment will ensure that 5.8 million patients — including an estimated 263,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans — will receive quality health care services in the current fiscal year.
