Volunteer Recruitment Advertisement

Do you have favorite national forests you enjoy visiting or have previously worked?  Do you enjoy talking with forest visitors or driving remote areas of these forests?  Are you planning to travel through any national forests this next year and have a few hours to spare to be a “secret shopper”?   Several national forests (here is the list) are conducting field interviews of forest visitors to obtain accurate recreation use information over the next two years.  Most of the assistance needed requires a minimum of one month’s commitment from the volunteer.  The forest will provide on-site training and some reimbursement of expenses in exchange for your time.  Secret shoppers can volunteer for only one day and require only that you drive or walk through a certain interview point and be interviewed for about 15 minutes, then report back to the national coordinator.   Volunteer interviewers will be outside in all types of weather, all times of the year.   For more details see the national FS Retiree web page at http://www.fsx.org, the National Visitor Use Monitoring web page at http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/recuse/recuse.shtml or call Sue Kocis the project coordinator at 707.574-6233 (skocis@fs.fed.us).
