Economy
With a well-trained workforce, strong manufacturing base, and new emerging growth industries like the life sciences, North Central Indiana has great potential for economic growth. As your Congressman, I will work with our business leaders and local governments to make sure that our existing businesses thrive and that companies from elsewhere are aware that our part of Indiana would be a great place to locate and grow their businesses.
Countless workers, small business owners, and manufacturers have told me that our current trade laws are not benefiting them. This is unfortunate, but not surprising. Many of our foreign competitors have rigged the game in their favor by illegally subsidizing their products; by manipulating the values of their currencies; and by dumping high volumes of their products into our country at below-market costs. As long as the game is rigged, it is tough for Hoosier companies to compete. I am committed to putting an end to these unfair and illegal trade practices and to level the playing field.
In addition, I will approach my duties on the House Financial Services Committee with this overarching goal in mind: making sure that the American Dream remains within reach of every hard-working Hoosier. I will work with our banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions to see that people have the opportunity to succeed. As a member of the subcommittee that deals with housing policy, I will work to see that affordable housing is available to Hoosiers, while making sure that Indiana’s manufactured housing industry and home builders continue to be strong components of the state’s economy.
