Laboratory Information Management Systems Solutions Workshop |
|
October 8, 2008 9:00 am to 5:00 pm NCI-Frederick Building 549 Conference Center
In these days of high-throughput data collection, it is almost inevitable that LIMS solutions will be implemented throughout laboratories at NCI-Frederick in the future. Some laboratories have already investigated and implemented their own LIMS solutions, ranging from customized COTS, such as TrackWise, LabVantage, and LabMatrix; custom systems developed by ABCC; to custom systems developed within individual laboratories. Because of the rapidly evolving interest in LIMS within the NCI-Frederick scientific community, the NCI-Frederick LIMS Oversight Committee determined a need for an LIMS forum to educate users, to establish an LIMS nomenclature, and to agree on a direction for future LIMS, based on requirements and existing alternatives. The LIMS Committee invites all those interested in LIMS to come and share their LIMS needs, experiences, and preferences with users and ABCC LIMS developers who will present at the workshop. The Workshop will conclude with a panel discussion addressing specific LIMS issues and answer questions you may have about LIMS. Vendors will be present to demonstrate and answer questions about their LIMS products. The objectives of this workshop are to provide laboratories with the tools, information, and choices they need in order to make informed decisions about their next LIMS. This community of interested parties will learn about the different meanings LIMS has in different contexts and leave the workshop with an understanding of why LIMS standards, definitions, and a standard LIMS dictionary of terms are needed. By identifying user requirements in this initial forum, we hope that open discussions will continue so that maximum LIMS efficiency can be achieved. An efficient and standardized LIM system provides users with intra-laboratory capabilities for sample tracking and data management; analysis of the data products; and the architecture for connecting selected data to the greater research community. Attendance is limited to the first 100 registrants. A light lunch and refreshments will be available. |
