Abstract:
This class combines an overview of the importance and relevance of metadata, along with hands-on exercises to apply day-to-day uses of metadata. Methods of creating and formatting metadata according to the Federal Geographic Data Committee standard will be covered. Class participants a required to bring a dataset of their own to the class to document. Intended audience: anyone who uses GIS or plans to start using GIS
Tools:
Several tools are discussed. Hands-on exercises utilize the ArcView metadata extension.
Experience:
Previous experience includes developing materials and teaching 4-day GIS class; developing metadata education materials for integration into university classes , and metadata presentations at conferences and meetings statewide since 1997.
Limitations: Wyoming and Colorado front range.
