Kennedy, Kerry, Tsongas Announce $18.7 Million In Job Corps Contract For Shriver Job Corps Center In Devens, Massachusetts

WASHINGTON, DC – May 13, 2008 – Senators Edward M. Kennedy and John Kerry and Congresswoman Niki Tsongas announced today that the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded an $18.7 million contract to Adams and Associates for operations of the Shriver Job Corps Center in Devens, Massachusetts.

“The Job Corps provides essential support for young adults through education and vocational training.” Senator Kennedy said, “I commend Adams and Associates and the Shriver Job Corps Center for working hard to improve the lives of young people in the Devens area.”

“This investment in young people makes it clear we mean business when it comes to empowering tomorrow’s workers to compete in the global economy,” Senator Kerry said. “The students at the Shriver Center receive state-of-the-art training in computers, learn carpentry and masonry and take their first steps in medicine and health care. This funding is well-deserved and the staff and administration at the Shriver Center will put this money to very good use.”

"Young adults in our area have benefited greatly from the vocational training and educational assistance available at the Shriver Job Corps Center," said Congresswoman Niki Tsongas. "I am pleased that as a result of this significant award of federal funding, Shriver will be able to reach additional young men and women and provide them with skills and training they need to succeed in their job pursuits and careers."

Through a nationwide network of campuses, the Jobs Corps offers a comprehensive range of career development services to at-risk young women and men, ages 16 to 24, to prepare them for successful careers.
